According to the Science and Technology Innovation Board Daily, FPGA manufacturer Xilinx recently issued a price increase notice, announcing that the price of some of its products will be increased by 25%, which will be officially implemented on April 5, 2021.

Judging from an e-mail that was reported to have been notified by Xilinx to customers, the price increase mainly involved old models of Spartan-6, Virtex-6, Kintex-7, and Virtex-7 series, with a price increase of 25%. Xilinx said that the main reason for the price increase is: because these models have a long life cycle, the cost of manufacturing, transportation and maintenance of older models has increased year by year. Through price increases, Xilinx can provide these products with a longer life cycle. Avoid stopping production.

International electronic business found that there were also Weibo users who posted the same news.

The email also pointed out that this time it will be officially implemented on April 5, 2021. In other words, the implementation period for the price increase of the products mentioned above by Xilinx still has half a year to transition. It is understood that Xilinx's main product FGPA chip is a programmable SoC. Programmable features allow FGPA chips to be repeatedly reprogrammed to adapt to different types of computing tasks, and provide prototype design support for chips with many subdivision functions.

Public information shows that FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) is a product of further development on the basis of programmable devices such as PAL and GAL. FPGA emerged as a semi-custom circuit in the field of application-specific integrated circuits (ASIC), which not only solves the shortcomings of custom circuits, but also overcomes the shortcomings of the limited number of gate circuits of the original programmable devices. Currently, the main players in FPGA are: Xilinx, Altera (acquired by Intel), Lattice and Microsemi (acquired by Microchip). Among them, Xilinx, which occupies most of the market share, is the world's largest FPGA chip manufacturer and has business dealings with giants such as Alibaba Cloud, Amazon, and Huawei.

Regarding the price increase news, the international electronic business situation immediately sought confirmation from Xilinx, but as of press time, Xilinx did not comment. The authenticity of the news needs to be further verified.
